DSB are a four piece outfit playing original melodic songs, with retro guitars pulling in sounds from roots, rock, folk and blues. Live on stage their songs build with feeling and dynamics to create an engaging performance.
The seeds of DSB started in 2010 when Dan started a new blues / roots based project under his own name with Ben Coley on drums and Matt Paull on acoustic bass.
By 2011 the Dan Sowerby Band were finalists in the renown, UK wide search for blues talent; New Brunswick Battle of the Blues and in 2013 their album 'Milestone' reached no.8 in the IBBA (Independent Blues Broadcasters Association) airplay chart.
After a break from playing throughout the covid lockdown they started writing music again in 2022 and in 2023 they were ready to get back out there with some brand new material. Their sound had been refreshed with a conscious move away from the blues scene they were previously associated with to a more forward looking song based, all original set. They were joined on guitar and mandolin by James Bradshaw and Matt embraced the electric bass in place of his acoustic double bass. Finally they decided that going forward, to mark the change in personnel and direction, to be known as the abbreviated 'DSB' in place of the 'Dan Sowerby Band'.
DSB are a group of very experienced musicians. Between them the band members have toured Europe, played session for acts such as Boney M and the Drifters, shared artist management (One Fifteen) with Dave Gilmour and written production music for TV and Radio that has been used worldwide.
In 2024 they played with artists such as Dan Patlansky, The Cold Stares and award winning guitarist Ben Poole on their European tours.
They are currently recording a new album and filming some live videos due for release in 2025
